President’s Message: Sandra Grebeldinger, February 26, 2021

Greetings fellow artists!

Who would have known that after the onslaught of Coronavirus one year ago, that we would be virtually in the same position one year later?

With the threat of an ever-increasing number of variants, we are still many months away from ‘herd immunity’. However, in Nova Scotia we have followed the health protocols well and have kept the virus at bay better than most provinces. We still have to remain ever vigilant to protect our health and the health of our family and friends.

Through all of this, DVAS has managed to keep some semblance of normalcy by holding weekly Studio Group for those members who feel comfortable coming out to the Findlay Centre, while still observing physical distancing, mask wearing etc. Some of our members have signed up for Virtual Workshops to keep painting with others. Our Workshop Coordinator, Violet O’Connell has been in touch with the church where we have held our workshops prior to the pandemic, and she will have some good news regarding workshops to be held in the Spring.

At the end of last year, the executive decided to order painting aprons printed with our DVAS logo.

These have sold really well. DVAS has underwritten the actual cost of the aprons for our members. Out of the 50 aprons ordered, we currently only have 3 left! So, anyone who would like to purchase one ($10 each) please contact me at: sandragreb@eastlink.ca They will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

In addition, Kathy Snell has had a new DVAS banner professionally made to replace the old sandwich board that we used for art shows. Kathy will be sending out information this spring about the upcoming show at the Craig Gallery in  June. There is also some news on the executive front:

Mary Lou Whitehorne has taken over the Website position and has done a wonderful job of transitioning it onto a new platform. You are encouraged to take a look!  www.dartmouthvisualarts.ca  Our thanks to Dorothea LeBlanc for having maintained the Website over the past many years.

The Newsletter position has been taken over by Janet Warnes and she is actively working to update the website with new information. Our thanks to Ginger Allen for the work she has done on the Newsletter for the past several years.

We will schedule the Annual General Meeting shortly and the date will be posted on the Website when the AGM date is confirmed.

Happy Painting!

Sandra Grebeldinger, DVAS President
