DVAS Workshops for 2021

NOTICE: Workshops scheduled for March, April, and now May 22 (Jude Caborn) are cancelled as per public health restrictions. Cheques received in payment for these workshops will be shredded, and cash payments will be refunded. DVAS will try to re-book as and when pandemic conditions improve, so please stay tuned! Thank you.

DVAS has been busy booking artists for our popular Saturday monthly workshop series. Here are the details:

MARCH  27, 2021 – Debbie Mosher: cancelled How to paint with palette knives using acrylics. Artists should bring their own canvases, acrylic paints and palette knives. Debbie will have a selection of tools that you can borrow. Debbie’s website is here

APRIL 24, 2021 — Twila Robar-DeCoste: cancelled Painting hair and feathers using watercolours. The morning will be spent painting a red squirrel, and the afternoon will be used to experiment with painting feathers. Twila can be found on Facebook for anyone who wants to view her work.

MAY 22, 2021 —  Jude Caborn: cancelled Learn the tricks of the trade to enhance your watercolour paintings. Jude’s biography and artistic endeavours can be seen here

SEPTEMBER 25, 2021 —  Ron Hazel: Ron Hazel will be present a sketching workshop on painting reflections in water. Ron’s work can be seen on Facebook as well as on his gallery page here.

OCTOBER 30, 2021 – Sarah Irwin: This acrylic workshop focuses on experimentation and whimsey, making painting fun and enjoyable. Bring your own painting supplies, in your medium of choice, as well as reference photos of what they would like to paint. Sarah’s website is here

NOVEMBER 27,2021 – Tacha Reed: Tacha’s workshop is all about felting. Artists will be asked to pay $20.00 to cover supplies and will take home a felt picture. Tacha is online at https://woodlandwool.blogspot.com/?fbc

Participants must agree to these COVID Safety Protocols for DVAS Workshops:

  • a maximum of 15 participants
  • DVAS will supply hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes
  • you need to bring your own table cover
  • wear a mask at all times and plan to stay at your table as much as possible as the instructor will circulate the room to provide guidance
  • DVAS will not have access to the kitchen so bring an appropriate lunch that can be eaten at your table, plus your own coffee, tea, snacks
  • in order to maintain a safe community of painters, we ask that you minimize mingling and remain in the church for the duration of the session
  • be aware that Public Health Restrictions may change at any time and respect our requirement to comply
  • a refund of your registration fees will only be made if the workshop has to be cancelled



DVAS workshops are open to all, with preference given to DVAS members. All levels of experience are welcome. Spaces at DVAS workshops fill up quickly, so register early and don't miss out!  Workshops are held at South End Baptist Church, 60 Hastings Street, Dartmouth, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Bring all of your own supplies for each workshop, and a lunch. Workshop Fees: $35 for members, $50 for non-members, per workshop

Workshop Policy:  Workshops must be paid in advance, by cheque by the 15th of the month and postdated for the day of the workshop.  We request that you be there by 9:15 at the latest to set up.  We will begin at 9:30 am sharp.  Payment is due when registering for a workshop.  Cheques are to be made payable to Dartmouth Visual Arts Society or DVAS - one separate cheque for each workshop.  Please date the cheque the day of the workshop requested (as cheques become stale and non-negotiable after six months). Indicate on the cheque the name of the workshop or the artist.

Cheques will not normally be returned.  Note that in the event the workshop attendance list becomes full, priority will be given to paid-up members.  Also in excess of full attendance, a waiting list will be used.  Two weeks notice is required for cancellation.
